It was a tough weekend with two engines blown, late nights, and a poor performing engine. We have already begun to work with our engine builder and SCCA Pro to get upgraded parts for our car. Up to this point, SCCA required that we use stock parts until we started needing higher performance parts...well now with two engines blown, and a lack of power and pace, we should be able to get these performance enhancements that we so desperately need.
We believe that the stock T5 pistons couldn't handle the higher engine air temperatures created through the turbo. We had higher engine air temps at this event because of the significantly longer wide-open-throttle (WOT) portions of Watkins Glen.
There were some late nights at the garage, and a lot of non-stop work on replacing the engine and getting everything prepared for Sunday's race. A very big thanks to everyone who helped our team this weekend, including crews from Skip Barber, Tindol Motorsports, RealTime Racing, and an extra thanks to TriPoint Motorsports. My father, my brother, and myself (which is our crew at this point as our team grows) worked many hours on getting the engine replaced for Sunday's race, but no one worked harder or longer than my father, so many thanks to him for his work this weekend, and to my mother as well for all of her support and help throughout the weekend...it was a family and team effort, and we worked our hardest.
The car handled very well, but it just doesn't have enough power at this point, and that is what we're going to be working on over the next month before our next event at Toronto, Canada, on July 6-8.
